Maria is a PhD candidate in Political Science studying the structural barriers moms face when seeking elected office. She is trained in both qualitative and quantitative research methods and has published a book chapter on the importance of using campaign funds for childcare. She has worked as a research assistant for several research entities within Rutgers’ Eagleton Institute of Politics including the Center for American Women in Politics, the Center for Youth Participation, and the Center for the American Governor. As Research Manager at Vote Mama, Maria oversees data collection and analysis for our Politics of Parenthood and Campaign Funds for Child Care projects. In addition to pursuing her doctorate, Maria holds a Master’s Certificate in Women’s and Gender studies from Rutgers University and a BA in Political Science from the University of New Mexico. Originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico, Maria now lives in New Jersey
